Creamy Roses

Oil on wrapped canvas.  8 x 8 x 5/8". $45 ppd. via PayPal --Buy Now with PayPal--
My neighbor had a small cream-colored rose bush in her garden this summer.  I'd seldom painted flowers, but something about that rose . . . . . .   Painting flowers has made me more aware of their awesome structure.  Each variety is different and each has its own specialty.

This can be framed or simply hang it as is in a small space or display on an easel. The sides are painted the background color. Questions? Email joycooper@nakiska.com

Prickly Pear Cactus

     Oil on wrapped canvas. 5 x 5 x5/8"; $20 ppd--Buy Now with Pay Pal--

I live in the east, and like western trips where I enjoy the desert plants. But this cactus, Prickly Pear Cactus, occurs almost everywhere on the planet and in each of the United States. Still, it's a surprise to find it in West Virginia where we sometimes seem more akin to a rain forest than a desert!

A small cream border "frames" the image and continues around the side. Simply hang in a small space or display on an easel. If you have questions, email joycooper@nakiska.com.

Pine Tree Motif

Oil Painting on Slate   9 x 5.5". $35, ppd   --Buy Now with PayPal--

I enjoy painting this tree.  It appears every once in a while as the subject or an accent in a painting.  It caught my eye on an ATV ride to - of all places - a restored strip mine.  It's a remote place with a logging road to it.  Along the way I've found masses of flowers, heard warblers, and am always surprised at how vast the territory is when you leave the main road.

This is an oil painting on antique roof slate. Slate provides a great texture. All the gray color is unpainted. On the back are wood strips with eye-hooks and a hanging wire. Or you can display this on a small easel.  Questions? Email joycooper@nakiska.com

Two for Feb 2

Oil Paintings on antique roof slate - 9 x 5.5". $35, ppd. Two came off my easel today!

Slate provides a great texture. All the dark gray color is the natural slate. On the back is a wood strip with eye screws and a hanging wire.  Or you can display this on a small easel. If you have any questions, please email   joycooper@nakiska.com

Autumn Woods was inspired by a hike in West Virginia's mountains. We encountered the Wood Duck nesting box as we circled Sherwood Lake.  The trees and some of the foliage are painted with a palette knife, adding to the natural texture of the slate.

I painted lots of Geraniums last summer and got interested in flower painting - not my usual subject.  I'm enjoying putting the compositions together and exploring shapes and forms.

Snowshoe Hare Sighting

Oil Painting on antique roof slate - 5.5 x 9".  $35, ppd. -- Buy Now with PayPal --

I live in West Virginia's mountains and I'm pretty sure I saw fresh Snowshoe Hare tracks while cross- country skiing near my home last week. That was the inspiration for this painting.

I haven't posted on this blog for several years - I've been A.W.O.L!  I found Leslie Saeta's podcast and website recently. See.http://artistshelpingartistsblog.blogspot.com/. She and her guest hosts inspire! She presented a challenge to paint 30 paintings in 30 days in January. I missed that but I'm inspired to work toward 28 paintings in February.  This is the first, painted on Feb 1.  It's a good thing to keep the brushes wet!

Introduction

In 1962, I decided that when I designed and marketed a line of clothing my label would read, "A Joy Creation". I seldom sew any more, but I still create. This site will have posts of some of those creations. Perhaps the best of them have been Ken & Jon, our sons. And they've created Erica, Cole, and Cameron.

Since then I've been involved in lots of creative activities, but haven't used that name. Until I created this blog. I'll be sharing some of those interests here.

My mother called me "flighty". I prefer "interested in many things". Future posts will reflect those interests.

One interest is botany. Do you have an iPhone?  Check out my wildflower app: "Wildflowers Along the Way"!
